Green design for the community

This project consists of 2 buildings. The main building is a 13,700 SF Assisted Living Facility for the Florida Institute for Neurologic Rehabilitation (FINR). FINR specializes in treating and rehabilitating clients with neurologic impairments. The main building features 12 large private rooms, each with a large, accessible bathroom and walk-in closet.

Carlson Studio Architecture has been working with FINR since 2004 to create ideal healing enviroments on the FINR Wachula campus. CSA has also designed projects for FINR on several other smaller sites.

Initial construction was a prototype, and has been built 3 times to date.

Master planned communities by Carlson Studio Architecture
The FINR Campus is an 872 acre rural site that allows the patients the ability to move freely without endangering themselves. As part of a Master Planning process, Carlson Studio Architecture worked with the owner, staff, and civil engineers to plan for the future needs of the Institute. Mutliple building types have been planned for the campus including, assisted living facilities, nursing care, recration buildings, and single family housing.

This three building complex provides a recreational pool for the clients, as well as a pump house/pool cabana, a general store and a vocational training and rehab center. The vocational/rehab building includes computer labs, administrative offices, classrooms, activity spaces and large locker rooms for both men and women to serve the large swimming pool and 2 outdoor spas.

The general store building sits partially in the lake that it overlooks, and features exposed heavy timber roof framing, and wide covered outdoor decks for one to sit and enjoy the view across the lake in its beautiful, natural setting.

The second building on campus is a 4,600 S.F. Vocational building that provides additional activity spaces for the clients. It features a colonnade which faces the main building and it has a metal roof, brick and horizontal siding exterior to match the main building.

A notable feature of the pool complex is a man made waterfall, over 200 feet in length, wrapping around the complex, facing the entrance to the entire FINR campus.  This wall/waterfall overflows into the adjacent lake along its entire length.  The exterior features include metal roofs, split face block,  and Hardee siding to tie into the other existing buildings on the campus.
