In 2008 the Pinellas Animal Foundation held a Dog House competition to raise money for their non-profit organization. The team at Carlson Studio designed a green dog house to enter into the comeptition and won both the "people's choice" award and First Place in the Green catagory.
The design is concstructed from collected materials and is 90% made of reclaimed parts. The roof is desinged to collect rainwater which is fed into the dogs bowl. A small solar panel powers there LED lights on the sides of the house. The north side has a large clear plastic viewing area roofed with a planted green roof. The south facade is glazed with a translucent insulated panel to allow daylight, but reduce heat gain from the sun.
The dog house was later showcased at the 2009 Sarasota E-fest event, where it was auctioned off to benefit a 2nd non-profit organization.
